授業の概要

The focus of this course is on intensive listening, but all lessons employ basic language skills to facilitate and support students’ recognition and use of vocabulary in every day communication. A number of short video segments will be shown in class, and students will practice listening for reductions, stressed words, main ideas, and specific information; and most importantly, absorbing meaning from context. Students will receive a homework sheet to familiarize themselves with some of the vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and grammatical structures before viewing the documentary segments in class. In class, students will partake in a number of listening exercises and games to further their understanding of the video content. Various themes of popular culture, multiculturalism, tolerance, acceptance, and peace education will be emphasized in these travel documentaries.

到達目標	A strong component of the course is based on speaking about the documentaries and giving your opinions. Attendance is mandatory and plays a big part of your grade, along with cooperation, a positive attitude and class participation.

成績評価方法	70 percent of the grade is based on attendance, homework, in class participation (which includes strong emphasis on pair work to uncover meaning from the content ), and one midterm quiz, and one final exam. 30 percent of the grade is based on a final exam of content covered in class
