授業の概要
This course will help students improve their English reading skills and their comprehension and enjoyment of reading in English. Two graded readers have been chosen which will be used by all the students for class discussions and vocabulary building. These two books will be supplemented by watching movie renditions of the stories (when available), in English.

Strategies will be developed for improving reading comprehension and reading speed. Finally, emphasis will be placed on the student's ability to use the material in the books (events, social issues, personal conflicts) to support intelligent discussion of contemporary issues.

How to write an effective book report in English will be discussed within the classroom. Oral book reports will be an option for those students willing to try a bit of public speaking.

Students are expected to read in English for homework every week. Classroom activities will include reading fluency exercises, chapter summaries, vocabulary growth, and speaking activities. The first book that will be used in Spring 2009 is: Madame Doubtfire Penguin Readers Level 3. In addition, please read the textbooks section below.
