授業の概要
This course is designed to help students become better readers and to help students learn to enjoy reading. The main reading material for the course consists of Graded Readers (or authentic English books if desired by a student); however, other reading material like newspaper articles and magazine articles will be used in the class. The students will learn different reading strategies to improve their reading comprehension as well as their reading speed. In addition, the students will learn to use the reading material they have read for communicative purposes, like discussion, re-telling and interview role-plays. A special emphasis is placed on vocabulary and its importance in reading. The students are expected to read in English each week for homework. Classroom activities will include but is not limited to the following: timed speed reading, instant book reports, re-telling and discussion of material read, interview role-plays and various vocabulary activities.
到達目標
This course aims at improving students' reading skills as well as discussion skills. Students will learn to use the reading materials for various communicative activities to maximize the benefits and enjoyment of reading.

Grades will be based on the following: Attendance/Participation 30%, Written Reports/Presentations 30%, End-of-the-year Portfolio (includes all class work and homework) 40%

Class work/Homework will not be collected weekly by the instructor. However, students are expected to keep all this work in a binder that is collected at the end of the semester and evaluated by the teacher.
