授業の概要

This course is designed to help students build up confidence in using English for effective communication. They will learn how to 1)explain about thier thoughts, 2)draw information from others, 3)share their experiences. Topics will include identity,culture shock, body language, politeness and values. Class activities will include listening exercises, pair work and presentations. Students will be expected to prepare a short presentation every week. Through small group discussions, students will have a chance to express their ideas in their own way.

到達目標	Students should become more capable of expressing their opinions. They should therefore acquire vocabulary and structures to talk about cross-cultural themes and exchange their opinions about values with others.

第1回目	Course orientation	What is a discussion?	Bring an ID photo and a vocabulary notebook. Before each class, students should read the "Find Out" and "Find Out More" passages in the unit they are going to study that week. They should check the meanings of the words that they don't know.
第2回目	Unit 1 Identity	Personal identity `What's special about me?'	Do homework. Prepare for discussion.
第3回目	Unit 2 Values	Talk about beliefs of what is right and wrong.	same as above
第4回目	Unit 3 Culture shock	Explore the issue of culture shock and strategies how to reduce it.	same as above
