授業の概要
Business Ethics is coming to know what is "right" and "wrong" in the workplace and doing what is right. In the first part of the course we will examine different approaches to determining right and wrong, and then we will apply these different standards to ethical issues at the (1) individual, (2) community, and (3) societal levels.

Students should develop the critical thinking skills to make informed choices when confronted with an ethical issue.

What is Corporate Social Responsibility? Introduction to the course and to the topic of business ethics.

第2回目
Corporate Citizenship: Individual, Community and Society A general introduction to the different philosophical approaches to ethics and how they are applied to business. Brief introduction to some issues at the (1) individual level, (2) community level, and (3) societal level. Individual ethics questionnaire and class discussion

第3回目
Ethical Issues--East and West Business ethic issues confronting Japanese companies in a global economy. Small group discussion on a selected topic.

Individual Level Lecture and discussion on "sexual harassment" in the workplace.

第5回目
同上 Lecture and discussion on "racial discrimination" in the workplace.

第6回目
同上 Lecture and discussion on "child labor" in the workplace.

第7回目
Community/Company Level Lecture and discussion on "corporate governance" and "social regulation" issues.

第8回目
同上 Lecture and discussion on "product liability" of companies to consumers.

Since the topics change each week, students must make a commitment to attend all classes. Students attending each week will find writing their reports and making their presentations relatively easy. Thus, students willing to make this small commitment are encouraged to enroll in this class.
