授業の概要
A dilemma businesses around the world face is making a profit while meeting the growing pressures to produce goods and services that do not harm the environment. In this course we will examine the broad issue of "sustainable development" and how businesses can contribute to society through "green productivity."
到達目標
Students will analyze an actual case study of a small- and medium-sized enterprises and make recommendations how to improve its "environmental performance" and "bottom-line"(profitability).

第1回目
環境と経営 Introduction to the course and why we should be concerned about environmental issues.
第2回目
Sustainable Development Lecture on the notion of sustainable development and the various international conventions that have been signed in the past. Particular focus on Agenda 21 and Japan.
第3回目
Environment and Business Paradigm Shift Lecture on the change in business attitude towards the environment from the 1960s to the present. What has been the role of Japanese companies in environmental issues past (oil shock) and present (Kyoto Protocol)
第4回目
Total Quality and Environmental Management Lecture on ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 9000 series (Quality Management Systems). Particular attention to environmental and quality control terminology and methods.
第5回目
Green Productivity Introduction to the idea of Green Productivity--the implementation of environmentally friendly business practices that also contribute to business efficiency.
第6回目
STEP 1: Getting Started--how to identify the environmental aspects of a business. How to draw a flow chart.
第7回目
STEP 2: Planning--how to identify environmental aspects that have a harmful environmental impact. How to draw a material balance.
第8回目
STEP 3: Generate Suggestions--how to use the different environmental accounting systems to turn suggestions from qualitative idea to quantiative "facts." Setting concrete "environmental objectives and targets."
第9回目
STEP 4: Evaluate GP Options--how to conduct an economic, social and environmental feasibility study to improve the "environmental performance" of a business.
第10回目
STEP 5: Implementation of GP Options--how to write a concrete action plan.
第11回目
STEP 6: Check--how to conduct an "environmental audit." STEP 7: Action--preparing a Green Productivity report.
