授業の概要

このニュースは、読む、書く、聞く、話すの4つの分野の総合的な演習と共に、実用的な英語でのプレゼンテーションの練習も行う。また、教科書として使用する“Identity”を通じて「異文化コミュニケーション」のごく基礎的な理論も学ぶことができる。

到達目標	基礎演習やプレゼンテーションを通じて、他国の文化や習慣を学び、日本との違いは何か、なぜ違うのか、それらの違いにどう対処したらいいのかなどについて、自分の意見や経験を英語で表現する力をつける。

授業計画	テーマ	内容	授業を受けるにあたって
第1回目		Orientation	シラバスに従って必ず予習をしてくること。予習の内容は次の通り。 1）“Listening 1 & 2”を除いたすべての演習をしてくること。 2）その日の学習範囲に出てくる単語をすべて覚えてくること。 3）Presentationが予定されている場合には、十分な準備をしてくること。

第3回目		2. Proverbs and words that reflect cultural values.
第4回目	Body language and customs	1. Body language, gestures and customs relate to nonverbal communication.

第7回目	Politeness	1. Identities within the theme of politeness.
第8回目		2. People, living or deceased, whom the students respect.
第9回目	Communication styles	1. The different ways in which people communicate.
第10回目		2. The features of direct and indirect communication.

第12回目	Gender and culture	1. The role that gender plays in different cultures.
第13回目		2. How children are raised on the basis of their gender.
