授業の概要
This course is designed to help non-native speakers of English gain proficiency in oral communication skills, both in listening and speaking, by emphasizing activities that promote active learner involvement and interaction-skills necessary for non-native speakers to be successful in American undergraduate and graduate classrooms. Students will learn the necessary tools for successful presentations, including speaking clearly, organizing a speech, gathering and using resource material, preparing and speaking from notes, and preparing and using visual aids. Students will present individually, in pairs, and in teams in such tasks as reporting on interviews, informative speeches, problem/solution speeches, and argumentative speeches. Speeches will range from informal talks to formal presentations.
到達目標
In this class, the students are required to give a presentation every few weeks. The topics range from personal and familiar topics to more academic topics that require quite a lot of research by the students. The students are expected to learn to use strategies for giving effective presentations, and the strategies discussed in class are expected to be employed in the students' presentations. The students are expected to learn to give presentations in academic and professional contexts. For many of the presentations, the students are required to use PowerPoint presentation as the visual aid for their presentation. Lots of practice is expected at home before coming to class to give presentations.
