授業の概要 | The goal of the Bridge Program/First Year/Level V is to further develop and
refine student's oral language proficiency; to develop conversational skills
across a variety of situations and topics. Continued attention is paid to
prosodic and segmental features of oral language production, as needed.
Students refine oral presentation skills related to academic and professional
topics (e.g. reports, presentations, panels and debates). The second goal is to
further develop and refine student's knowledge of grammar through explicit
instruction and practice in using the grammatical structures of English.
Attention is paid to 'trouble-spots' in advanced grammar; individualized
grammar instruction is given during writing conferences. The third goal is
to further develop and refine student's skills in reading and writing English.
Readings in core texts are supplemented by authentic texts in selected topic
areas, including literary works. Attention is paid to skills of interpretation,
inference, critical analysis, and evaluation. Attention is also paid to discourse
structures of written English for both reading and writing over a variety of
genres. Writing is practiced through the use of journals and responses to
readings (with attention to paragraph and essay structure, summary, analysis
and critical evaluation writing skills). Academic writing is further developed
(e.g. short answer and essay exams, longer library papers, research papers,
rhetorical modes, etc.). The fourth goal is to reinforce the student's language
development by extensive reading and listening out of class (authentic
materials and visits to academic classes, cultural events, business sites, etc.).
The fifth goal is to refine and practice skills of note-taking, annotating,
outlining, etc. |
