授業の概要
The goal of the Bridge Program/First Year/Level III is to further develop
student's oral language proficiency; to focus on functional language use in
relation to topics and situations introduced in core texts. Attention is
directed to prosodic and segmental features of oral language production.
Students are introduced to oral presentation skills related to familiar topics
(e.g. cultural topics of one's native country, family and personal information).
The second goal is to further develop student's knowledge of grammar through
explicit instruction and practice in using the grammatical structures of English.
The third goal is to further develop student's skills in reading and writing in
English. Readings in core texts are supplemented by authentic texts in
selected topic areas. Attention is directed to discourse structures of written
English for both reading and writing. Writing is practiced through the use of
journals and responses to readings (with attention to paragraph and essay
structure). Students are introduced to academic writing (e.g. short answer
and essay exams, library reports, short definitions, etc.). The fourth goal is to
reinforce the student's language development by extensive reading and
listening out of class (authentic materials and graded ESL materials).
