授業の概要 | The goal of the Bridge Program/First Year/Level IV is to further develop and
refine student's oral language proficiency; to focus on functional language use
in relation to topics and situations introduced in core texts. Students develop
conversational skills across a variety of situations and topics. Continued
attention is paid to prosodic and segmental features of oral language
production. Students develop oral presentation skills related to academic
and professional topics (e.g. reports, presentations, panels, and debates).
The second goal is to further develop and refine student's knowledge of
grammar through explicit instruction and practice in using the grammatical
structures of English. Attention is paid to 'trouble-spots' in advanced grammar.
The third goal is to further develop and refine student's skills in reading and
writing in English. Readings in core texts are supplemented by authentic texts
in selected topic areas. Attention is paid to discourse structures of written
English for both reading and writing. Writing is practiced through the use of
journals and responses to readings (with attention to paragraph and essay
structure). Students will develop academic writing skills (e.g. short
answer and essay exams, longer library papers, extended definitions, etc.).
The fourth goal is to reinforce the student's language development by
extensive reading and listening out of class (authentic materials and visits
to academic classes, cultural events, business sites, etc.). The fifth goal is
to introduce and practice skills of note-taking, annotating, outlining, etc. |
