Goals:In addition to core texts,students read authentic texts in selected topic areas. Focus remains on discourse structures in
the readings. Various kinds of authentic material are a part of students'out-of-class reading.

Writing:Chap.8,9&10
Goals:Students continue to write journals and responses to readings practicing paragraph and essay-style writing. Academic writing
skills are developed with short answer and essay exams,longer library reports,extended definitions,and so on. Focus remains
on discourse structures in writing. Students are introduced to skills of note-taking,annotating,outlining,etc.

Skills:finding a basic of comparison;organizing ideas;topic sentences;keeping related information together;supporting an opinion
with examples
Strategies:using expressions of contrast;speculating;developing paragraph format
Listening&Speaking:Chap.8&9
Goals:Students develop their oral proficiency to include conversational skills across a variety of situations and topics,in
addition to those introduced in core texts. Oral presentation skills are expanded to cover academic and professional topics
through reports,presentations,panels and debates. Students continue to do extensive out-of-class listening with authentic
material.
